This winter is predicted to be colder than last year – meaning that slip-and-fall claims will be here before you know it. Here are three steps to take now to make sure your premises is ready for the upcoming winter season:
- Have a written plowing contract. Make sure it defines what is/is not covered (sidewalk, parking lot, re-freeze checks) and specifies the parameters that will require your vendor to automatically perform remediation services.
- Get an updated certificate of insurance. Obtain a copy from your vendor’s insurance broker directly and confirm that your business is named as an additional insured.
- Keep a supply of de-icing agent on hand. Be prepared to inspect the premises for icy conditions between vendor visits and remediate any potentially slippery areas.
