Danielle S. Engel

Biography

Danielle Engel focuses her practice on workers’ compensation defense. She has extensive experience representing insurance carriers, third party administrators and self-insured employers, handling many different types of workers compensation claims. These include hearings before the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board; drafting and submitting appeals, rebuttals, and memoranda of law; deposing medical professionals and claimants; and reviewing files for potential settlement.

Danielle has been named a Rising Star by the Upstate New York Super Lawyers every year since 2017. Danielle’s experience includes successfully defending a claim for years of reduced earnings, using specific case law to argue that the reduced earnings were not causally related to the claim saving her client hundreds of thousands of dollars. She has also litigated complex opiate medication issues that reduced the cost of Medicare Set Asides for her client.

While earning her law degree at American University’s Washington College of Law, Danielle was a student attorney in the school’s D.C. Law Students in Court clinical program, where she handled landlord & tenant, small claims, and other civil matters. She also served as a legal intern in the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ Legislative and Correctional Issues branch. There, she researched and wrote on matters involving inmates’ rights, the statutory obligations of the Bureau of Prisons, and various legislative issues affecting both inmates and Bureau staff. Outside of work, Danielle enjoys spending time with her two children, reading and continuing to try and improve her golf swing.
