Biography
With a decade of in-house experience at two major U.S. insurance carriers, Christopher A. Diaz has stood in his clients’ shoes. Over his 26-year career, that perspective has informed his strategic approach to every New Jersey workers’ compensation defense matter he handles. Whether as outside counsel to carriers, for clients in the cleaning supplies, retail or transportation industries, or large corporate entities and municipalities, Chris handles claims from cradle to grave, that often involve Second Injury Fund, Motions for Medical and Temporary Disability Benefits, and self-insureds. In addition, he continues to handle claims on behalf of several major distribution and logistics companies doing business in New Jersey.
Chris has tried cases in nearly every jurisdiction in the New Jersey Workers’ Compensation system. His appellate experience includes the reported case of Pauline Feltman v. Transistor Devices, Inc. (355 N.J. Super. 36 (App. Div. 2002). His brief on behalf of the respondent helped guide the Court’s extensive review of the standards of proof required in cardiac claims. As a skilled negotiator, Chris works to obtain the most cost-effective resolutions for his clients whether that is through settlements, Section 20 resolutions or trial.
In addition to his practice, Chris is an active member of the American Bar Association and the National Puerto Rican Bar Association. He enjoys public speaking and has presented on the art of negotiation and dispute resolution at Shippensburg University. Chris also volunteers to judge collegiate debate tournaments, having been an enthusiastic member of the Brownson Speech and Debate Team at Seton Hall University, his alma mater. Outside of work, Chris enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and college aged daughter, who is a talented music student in Boston, Massachusetts. His two Shih Tzus also keep him busy with their demands for walks, playtime and frequent treats.
